Did you know that in 2022, tourism was the fifth largest economic contributor with visitors spending $387.8 million in Lowndes County? In the same year, tourism also directly sustained 7.4% of jobs in the area. Tourism encourages new businesses and destinations to open, which not only support guests, but also make our own backyard a greater place to live. It clearly supports jobs, benefits the local economy, leads to investments in infrastructure and more. When we keep this data in mind, local leaders and business owners can see the opportunities for growth by embracing the benefits of sharing our city with visitors.
With your help, we can close out a fantastic 2023. We’ll be sure to share 2023 tourism data with you when it becomes available, but thinking of how you can help in the meantime? Consider spreading holiday cheer with your loved ones visiting this Christmas. Check out our events page for the best festive celebrations. If you’re looking for the ultimate family friendly weekend in town, we’ve got you covered with resources on everything from outdoor activities to arts & culture to where to stay or where to enjoy a bite to eat.
